Exhibition of the Lab’s activities as part of the Ars Electronica Festival 2021
The Crafting Futures Lab is a platform for researching the future of craft, the craft of the future and the crafting of futures. The focus is on materials, techniques and tools with the aim of generating and diversifying knowledge and involving different target groups in thought and action. Active questioning, learning and collaboration are central premises for the investigations at the interface of traditional craftsmanship, digital technologies and education. The lab was created to bundle education and practice that deals with the social, technical and aesthetic (inter)effects of craftsmanship and digital technologies.
As part of Loops of Wisdom, the lab is opening its activities to the public for the first time and is seeking an exchange by presenting current projects and giving an outlook on future collaborations. The lab will be showing open source toolkits designed by master students on the Design:Technology.Textile teacher training programme as well as works by members of the department and invited artists and researchers.
